What is it?
A map-based system that allows a well owner or driller to register existing or new wells, or apply for operating permits online.  Interactive maps of Montgomery County allow the user to:

Geographic data includes:

Some information does not display unless you zoom in to a pre-specified scale.  For instance, when the map initially displays you don't see wells, small roadways, or aerial photography.  As you zoom in with by selecting the  tool and clicking the map or dragging a rectangle on the map, the wells, roadways and the aerial photography layers will either become visible or can be turned on.

Tip - Some map requests may take a moment to produce. Please allow enough time for your request to appear before moving to the next step.

How do I find the location of a well?
In order to register a well, the latitude/longitude coordinates of the well must be provided.  The mapping system contains roadways and aerial photography that can help the registrant find the location of a well.  If the well can be located by a street address, the registrant can type in the address and, if the address if found, the map will zoom in to the location of that address.

There are icons above the map that help the registrant navigate the map.  To activate an icon, just single-click it.  The navigation icons are described below:

Zoom in with a single mouse-click or hold down the left mouse button to draw a rectangle to zoom in to a specific area.

Zoom out on the map with a single mouse-click

Zooms to the entire Montgomery County area

Zooms to the previous map view

Pan around the map by holding the left mouse button down and moving the hand

Prompts the user for a physical address: If the address is found, the map will automatically zoom to that location

How do I determine latitude/longitude coordinates of a location?
Navigate to the location of interest. You cannot obtain latitude/longitude coordinates unless you are zoomed in to the point where the street names are visible on the map. Once the location of interest has been found, click the  button. Then, single-click the map on the location you're interested in.  The frame to the right of the map will show the coordinates of that point in degrees|minutes|seconds, as well as the surface elevation.  A point is also placed on the map that shows the coordinates in decimal degrees.

Tip - The coordinates are more accurate the closer you are zoomed in to the location you're interested in. The system will not provide coordinates unless you are zoomed in to the point where the street names are displayed on the map. To get the most accurate coordinates possible, it is advised that you turn on the aerial photography and visually verify your well location.

Tip - When entering longitude in decimal degrees on the map page; a negative (-) sign will need to be used. Example:

How do I register a well or apply for an operating permit?

How do I check the status of my application?

The quickest way to check the status of an application is to go to the main page of the online registration and permitting site and click "Links" on the menu bar, then click "Registration Status."
